It uses a board edge, straddle mount style — the connector straddles the PCB edge and solders to pads on both sides, saving board real estate compared to a traditional right-angle through-hole part. The 2-row layout with outer shroud contacts gives the mating interface mechanical protection and guides the plug into alignment during blind-mate assembly. The unthreaded flange on the housing provides a mounting point for panel or bracket retention without requiring a threaded fastener.
Termination is solder, using the board edge straddle mount method. The PCB must have edge-plated pads on both top and bottom layers — the connector sits over the board edge and the solder tails wet to both sides. This is not a through-hole or SMT part; the board edge slot and pad pattern are specific to the CHAMP.085 straddle-mount footprint. The housing includes an unthreaded flange for additional mechanical fixing to the panel or chassis.
As a receptacle with outer shroud contacts, this connector mates with the matching CHAMP.085 plug that carries the inner contact set. The shroud protects the receptacle contacts during unmated handling and guides the plug home. The 50-position count and 2-row layout are fixed — the mating half must match both the position count and the straddle-mount interface.
