What the 3.96mm pitch and tin plating mean for your board
This is fine for a one-time assembly or occasional service, but not for frequent disconnect/reconnect duty.
Friction lock keeps the connection tight under vibration
When pushed together, the lock snaps into place and holds the pair mated against cable pull or machine vibration — no secondary latch or TPA required. This is a single-wall shrouded header, meaning the plastic wall protects the pins on one side only. In a board-to-cable application, orient the header so the open side faces away from the cable entry to minimise the chance of a short if the wire is pushed sideways.
How this header compares to a 2.00mm-pitch alternative
The 640388-2 carries a higher voltage rating (600VAC) and wider pitch (3.96mm), which gives it a higher per-contact current ceiling and easier board routing, but at the cost of a larger footprint.
