Current rating depends on wire gauge selection
The actual current limit is determined by the mating terminal and the wire size chosen for the harness. For a 2-position header, the per-contact current is typically derated from the terminal's rating based on the number of adjacent circuits and ambient temperature. The tin-plated contacts have a higher contact resistance than gold, which increases self-heating at higher currents. In a 2-position configuration, the thermal rise is lower than in a multi-position header, but the wire gauge must still be matched to the load to stay within the UL temperature rise limits.
