It mates with MTA-100 receptacles to connect discrete wires to a PCB — a board-to-cable/wire style, not a board-to-board stacking connector. The single-wall shroud guides the receptacle during mating and protects the pins from stubbing, though the back of the pins remains exposed. The friction lock holds the header to the receptacle without a secondary latch, useful in moderate-vibration applications.
Board fit and mechanical anchoring
Through-hole solder tails (0.140" / 3.56mm post length) provide stronger board retention than SMT, important when the cable assembly pulls on the header. The insulation height of 0.305" (7.75mm) leaves clearance for the receptacle body above the board.
The closest functional alternative is the 1-292164-1 from the CT series: it is also a single-row through-hole header with tin contacts and a friction lock, but it uses a 0.079" (2.00mm) pitch and is rated 125VAC — a different footprint and lower voltage ceiling. The 640456-6's 0.100" pitch and 250VAC rating are not drop-in replaceable.
