At 7 positions on a 0.100" pitch, this header occupies about 0.7" of board edge. The friction lock distinguishes it from detent-lock headers in the same series — the friction lock provides a simpler, lower-insertion-force mate that still resists casual pull-off. Compared to the 11-position 1-292164-1 from the CT series (0.079" pitch, detent lock, 125 VAC), the 640457-7 offers a wider pitch and higher voltage rating but fewer circuits per inch of board edge. The 4-position 1-1871673-2 (0.098" pitch, dual-row, detent lock, board lock feature) targets higher-density board-to-board or cable applications; the 640457-7 is a simpler single-row wire-to-board header without board lock.
