36 circuits at 4.20 mm pitch — board footprint and mating half
The 640506-3 is a 36-position, 4-row vertical header from TE's MR (Miniature Rectangular) series. Each row is spaced at 0.165 inch (4.20 mm) — the same pitch as the row-to-row spacing, so the contact grid is square. That 4.20 mm pitch sets the board footprint and the per-contact current ceiling: at 6 A the temperature rise stays within the UL94 V-0 nylon housing rating. The 4-wall shrouding protects the male pins during handling and guides the mating receptacle into alignment. The latch lock on the shroud provides audible feedback on full engagement — useful in a harness assembly where the connector is blind-mated against a panel or bulkhead.
Tin-plated contacts — moderate-cycle, cost-effective interconnect
Tin-on-tin contacts are rated for a moderate number of mating cycles — typically 25 to 50 cycles before fretting corrosion becomes a concern. For a field-service application where the connector is cycled a few times a year, that is decades of service at the contact interface. The circular male pins are phosphor bronze, a standard spring alloy that resists stress relaxation at the 105 °C upper operating limit.
