The 644488-5: The friction lock provides a positive latching retention — it resists vibration-induced separation better than a plain header, but it is not a secondary lock or TPA. For harnesses that see occasional shock or routing flex, this latch is enough; for continuous high-vibration environments, a screw-lock or bolt-down header would be a step up.
The 644488-5 is marked Obsolete — TE Connectivity no longer manufactures it. For BOM lines that still call out this exact order code, the only sourcing path is through independent distribution surplus channels. Availability is lot-specific and confirmed at the time of RFQ. Tin-Lead Plating and Temperature Range
Tin-lead is a legacy plating — it provides good solderability and corrosion resistance, but the lead content means this part is not RoHS-compliant. For new designs requiring lead-free assembly, a tin-only or gold-flash alternative in the MTA-100 family would be the practical replacement. In practice, with a 22-24 AWG crimp terminal in the MTA-100 receptacle, the assembly typically derates to around 3-4 A per circuit at 30°C rise, but the official rating depends on the exact wire and terminal combination.
