What this 3-position header brings to the board
The 770170-2 is a 3-position, single-row vertical header from the Mini-Universal MATE-N-LOK series, designed for board-to-cable/wire applications. Its 4.14 mm pitch sets the PCB footprint and the per-contact current ceiling — current rating varies by wire gauge, so the limiting factor is the terminal and wire size, not the header itself. The post finish is tin-lead (150 µinch), which mates with standard solder processes but flags RoHS non-compliance. A shrouded 4-wall housing with a locking ramp prevents mis-mating and holds the connector pair under vibration.
Locking ramp and board lock — why they matter in a harness
The locking ramp gives you an audible click when the mating receptacle seats fully — you should hear it lock. If it backs out under vibration, it's scrap. The board lock holds the header down during wave solder and keeps the pins from lifting when the cable is tugged. The housing is UL94 V-0 rated nylon, so it meets flame-retardant requirements for equipment inside an enclosure.
