The TE Connectivity 770583-1 is a 16-position, dual-row plug housing from the Mini-Universal MATE-N-LOK series. It's a free-hanging (in-line) connector meant for wire-to-wire or wire-to-board harness applications where you need a positive latch lock to keep the pair mated under vibration — the latch lock fastening type does that without tools. The 0.163" (4.14 mm) pitch and row spacing give it enough room for moderate-current terminals without crowding the cavity. Contacts are not included with this housing — you order the crimp terminals separately, and the housing accepts either male or female contacts, so it can serve as either the plug or the receptacle half depending on which terminal you load.
Mating Half and Terminal Selection
This plug mates with the matching Mini-Universal MATE-N-LOK receptacle header (panel-mount or free-hanging) of the same 16-position, dual-row layout and 0.163" pitch. Because the housing accepts both male and female contacts, the mating half determines which terminal type you load here — if the mating half carries male pins, load female contacts into this plug, and vice versa. The crimp termination means you'll need the correct TE crimp tool and the wire-gauge-specific terminal for your build. The latch lock on the housing sides engages with the mating half's locking ramp for a positive, audible click when fully seated.
