Surface-mount termination means it reflows with the board — no through-hole soldering, so the assembly process is all SMT. The red insulation colour makes visual inspection of the mated connector easy on a populated board.
With 20 positions across two rows at 0.100" row spacing, the receptacle occupies a 10-position-wide footprint per row, roughly 1.0" (25.4 mm) along the body.
The SMT solder tails are tin-plated; the board pad layout should match the recommended footprint in the product drawing. The Pick and Place feature (flat top surface) allows vacuum-nozzle handling during automated assembly — no special tooling needed for the reel feed.
