5-Position IDC Socket Housing for 22 AWG Discrete Wire
The JST 05XAF-2S is a 5-position socket housing from the XAF series, designed for mass-termination IDC (Insulation Displacement Connection) to discrete 22 AWG wire. The closed-end design gives a positive stop for the wire during IDC assembly, preventing over-insertion.
No separate crimp terminal is required for the housing side — the wire is terminated directly into the socket contact inside the housing. This speeds up harness assembly when you have a batch of identical-length wires. The closed-end feature acts as a wire stop, so each conductor seats to the same depth. For the mating half, you will need the corresponding XAF series pin header with 0.025" square pins on the same 2.50mm pitch.
Tin Contacts — Suited for Limited Mating Cycles
The contact finish is tin, which is standard for connectors that mate a few times during installation and stay mated for the equipment life. Tin is cost-effective and works well in low-insertion-force applications, but it is not rated for frequent disconnect/reconnect cycles — gold-plated contacts would be the choice for field-service or test-point duty. For a fixed harness inside an enclosure, tin is the right call.
