Pitch has to match the ribbon — or the IDC bites between conductors
The JST 06SR-3S is a 6-position IDC receptacle from the SR series, terminated by mass- pressing the insulation-displacement contacts onto 30 AWG discrete wire. The 0.039" (1.00mm) pitch is the critical dimension — if your ribbon or wire spacing doesn't match that 1.00mm centerline, the IDC slot will shear between conductors instead of piercing them. This is a closed-end housing, meaning the wire bundle terminates here with no pass-through for daisy-chaining. The natural-colored body and tin-plated female socket contacts suit low-cycle internal harness work where cost per connection matters more than frequent re-mating.
IDC termination checklist — wire prep and tooling
Termination is IDC — no crimp, no solder. The wire gauge is fixed at 30 AWG discrete; the IDC slot dimensions are cut for that conductor diameter. A hand-press or pneumatic fixture with the correct SR-series die set seats the wire bundle in one stroke. Watch pin-one orientation: the closed-end wall marks the termination stop, and the latch feature on the mating header side orients the pair. Tin contacts are rated for limited mating cycles — plan for assembly-and-forget, not field-service disconnect.
