It's part of TE's Mini CT series — a compact, shrouded header family meant for signal-level wiring in tight spaces. The 4-wall shrouding protects the square male pins from bending during handling and blind mating, and the detent lock gives a positive tactile click when the mating receptacle is fully seated — a half-turn loose is a dropout, but this latch won't back off.
Detent lock and shrouding for vibration resistance
The detent lock holds the mating half in place under vibration, which is a step up from a simple friction-lock header. Combined with the full 4-wall shroud, this header is suited for applications where the cable gets tugged or the assembly sees movement — think control boxes, small appliances, or automotive interior modules. Tin-on-tin contact finish (mating and post) keeps the cost down for moderate mating-cycle duty; if the application needs frequent connect/disconnect, a gold-plated sibling in the series would be the better fit.
