7-position, 0.100" pitch — a legacy FFC interconnect
The 5-487508-6 is a 7-position FFC/FPC connector from the TE Triomate series. The tin-plated contacts (196.9 µinch) are rated for 25 mating cycles — adequate for one-time assembly or infrequent field service, but not for repeated reconnection.
The 196.9 µinch tin plating is thick — it reduces contact fretting during the first few mates. But tin oxidizes over time, and the oxide layer increases contact resistance after repeated insertion. The 25-cycle rating is the practical limit before resistance drifts outside the signal envelope. For a product assembled once and never field-serviced, 25 cycles is more than enough. If your design requires quarterly reconnection, budget a gold-plated alternative — the Triomate series includes gold options for higher cycle life.
