The center contact is solder-cup style, and the shield is soldered directly to the connector body. For RG-401 semi-rigid cable (0.250-inch outer diameter), the cable prep requires stripping the dielectric and center conductor to the specified lengths in the product drawing. The brass body with nickel finish accepts solder well; the PTFE dielectric handles the soldering heat without melting or shifting. No crimp tool is needed — just a soldering iron and a heat source for the shield joint.
The 11 GHz max frequency and 50 Ohm impedance define the usable bandwidth. At 11 GHz, the insertion loss is 0.15 dB — a low figure that keeps the signal power through the connector. The 1500 V rating is unusually high for an N-type plug; it supports RF power amplifier outputs and broadcast transmitters where voltage peaks can exceed 1 kV. The 500 mating cycles mean this connector is rated for field-serviceable connections — antenna swaps, test point changes — without degrading the center contact interface.
