40-Position FPC Connector for Dense Signal Routing
Current, Voltage, and Contact Duty
The 20 mating cycles rating reflects the ZIF design — the contacts are not wiped on insertion, so the cycle life is limited by the actuator mechanism and the gold plating wear. In a production assembly that mates the FPC once and leaves it, 20 cycles is ample; for field-service applications where the cable is disconnected quarterly, the connector supports roughly five years of reconnects before the contact interface degrades.
FPC Compatibility and Termination
The top-contact configuration means the FPC's conductive pads face upward when the connector is viewed from above; the slide lock clamps the flex against the contacts after insertion.
Selection Contrast: 40-Position OPU Variants
Compared to the 62684-402100ALF, the 62684-40210E9ALF adds the solder retention feature and restricts FPC thickness to 0.30 mm (the 402100ALF accepts 0.30 mm and 0.33 mm). The 402100ALF also uses a polyamide (PA9T) housing instead of thermoplastic. For a design that requires the wider FPC thickness tolerance or halogen-free material, the 402100ALF is the alternative; for solder retention anchoring, the 40210E9ALF is the correct choice. The 45-position sibling 62684-45210E9ALF shares the same pitch, gold plating, and ZIF slide lock but adds five more circuits. If the BOM requires 45 signal lines, that variant is the direct fit; the 40-position version leaves five channels unused.
