The TE Connectivity 184020-1 is a 2-position sealed plug from the SSC series, designed for free-hanging (in-line) wire-to-wire or wire-to-panel harness applications where moisture or debris ingress is a concern. The plug body accepts female socket crimp terminals (sold separately — the housing ships without contacts), and the latch holder fastening locks the mating pair against vibration. The glass-filled PBT housing is rated from -40°C to 125°C, covering underhood automotive and industrial cabinet temperature swings.
Mating and Termination — What You Need to Order Separately
This plug mates with the matching SSC series pin header or receptacle housing — the latch holder on the plug engages the corresponding lock feature on the mating half. The female socket contacts are crimp-terminated and inserted into the housing cavities; the housing itself does not include contacts, so the BOM must list the correct TE SSC crimp terminal separately. The sealed design means the wire-entry end of the housing accepts a sealing grommet or individual wire seals, which must also be sourced as a separate line item. For a harness shop, this adds three distinct part numbers to the build: the plug housing, the crimp terminals, and the seal components.
