A 2-Position Sealed Plug Housing That Expects You to Supply the Contacts
The TE Connectivity AMPSEAL 16 2040278-2 is a 2-position plug housing in the AMPSEAL 16 series, built for sealed wire-to-wire interconnects in environments where moisture and vibration kill unsealed connectors.
Sealed Housing with a Terminal Position Lock — What That Means in the Field
The housing carries a sealed construction and a Terminal Position Lock (TPA) feature. The seal keeps water and dust out of the cavity when mated with the AMPSEAL 16 header — think underhood engine harnesses, exposed industrial sensors, or outdoor lighting junctions where a puddle splash is routine. The TPA is a secondary retainer that slides over the back of the terminals after they are crimped and inserted; it locks each contact in place so a pulled wire does not back the terminal out of the cavity. On a 2-position connector the TPA is fast to engage, and it eliminates the guesswork of whether every terminal seated fully.
Mating and Termination — What It Connects To and How
The free-hanging (in-line) mount means the connector floats in the harness, not bolted to a panel, so it follows the wire routing without stress on the terminals.
