TNC Panel Jack for 11 GHz Signal Paths
The Amphenol RF 031-6887 is a 50 Ohm TNC jack, female socket, from the ARC series. It is a panel-mount flange design with threaded coupling, built for RF interconnect applications where a secure, weather-resistant mate is needed up to 11 GHz. The gold-plated beryllium copper centre contact and PTFE dielectric keep impedance stable through the connector, while the nickel-plated brass body handles the mechanical and shielding duty. This is the jack half — it mates with a TNC plug (male) terminated to a cable assembly.
What the 11 GHz and 500-Cycle Ratings Mean
The 11 GHz frequency ceiling is the real selection gate here. A TNC interface with a 50 Ohm impedance path and PTFE dielectric will carry signals cleanly up to that limit — beyond.
Panel Mount Installation
The shield termination is solder — the cable braid or semi-rigid outer conductor is soldered to the body, not crimped. The centre contact termination is also solder cup, meaning the signal conductor is tinned and soldered into the cup on the back of the jack. No PCB footprint is involved; this is a cable-to-bulkhead interconnect. The nickel body finish and PTFE dielectric are standard for RF connectors that see outdoor or industrial environments.
