What This MTA-100 Receptacle Does
That plating thickness supports repeated mate-unmate cycles in field-service or test-fixture use — the gold resists oxidation and fretting corrosion better than tin or flash-gold finishes. For a harness that gets disconnected and reconnected during maintenance, this is the right plating grade.
The red housing color is a visual identifier on the line; it helps spot the 2-position receptacle in a multi-harness assembly without reading the part number.
Closed End and Compatibility
The closed-end feature means the housing has no pass-through for daisy-chaining — it terminates the cable at this point. This receptacle mates with any standard MTA-100 header (straight or right-angle) at 0.100" pitch. The IDC termination accepts 22 AWG wire; the insulation is displaced by the contact tines as the cover is pressed down, making a gas-tight connection.
